Special Education Paraprofessional
Paraprofessionals report to the Special Education Coordinator.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s required.
- Certification in Special Education or relevant fields preferred.
- Be highly qualified in accordance with the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 and have a Masters Degree in Special Education and certification in Special Education Degree or certification in special education.
- Experience with Power School Special Programs preferred
- Knowledge of and experience with Universal Design for Learning.
- Expertise in programs used to assess students for services.
- Demonstrate an advanced understanding of instructional strategies for students with disabilities.
- Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of colleagues, parents, families, and community members
- Exhibits the ability to collaboratively work within and across disciplines with a diverse instructional team
- Experience working with parents and community
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, classroom management, and adaptive teaching
- Growth minded, receiving and incorporating feedback from team leaders, executive leadership and peers
Key Responsibilities
Special Education Specific Tasks
Teach Special Education Students
- Manage a caseload of special education students as assigned and the implementation of their IEP/504 plans in: inclusive, self-contained and pull-out settings.
- Ensure that appropriate services, accommodations, goals, and behavior intervention plans for each student are provided and are being implemented.
- Assist teachers with the analysis and disaggregation of standardized and classroom based data to drive rigorous and Common Core aligned instruction
- Oversee special education inventory of equipment / materials.
Communicate with all special education stakeholders
- Effectively communicate to parents and guardians the special education process including process for referrals, evaluations, annual IEPs/504 plans, and re-evaluations as well as parental rights granted by IDEA.
- Respond to inquiries of staff, district personnel, and other agencies related to serving students with disabilities.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records and student information.
